Short Biography

Anthony I. (Tony) Wasserman is a Professor in the Software Management MS program at
Carnegie Mellon Silicon Valley, and the Executive Director of its Center for Open Source Investigation (COSI).

Tony is best known as the Founder and CEO of Interactive Development Environments
(IDE), which built the innovative Software through Pictures multiuser modeling
environment. In 2000, Tony became VP of Bluestone Software, where he led the creation of the award-winning open source Total-e-Mobile toolkit, which allowed mobile devices to connect to Java-based web applications.

Earlier in his career, he was Professor of Medical Information Science at UC San Francisco, and concurrently served as a Lecturer in the Computer Science Division at UC Berkeley. While there, he developed the User Software Engineering project, which used user interface prototypes to improve requirements definition, and released the project software under a BSD open source license in 1980.

Dr. Wasserman has a Ph.D. in computer sciences from the University of Wisconsin - Madison
and a B.A. in mathematics and physics from the University of California, Berkeley, and is both an IEEE and an ACM Fellow.
