John Riedl has been a member of the faculty of the computer science
department of the University of Minnesota since March 1990. In 1992
he co-founded the GroupLens Research project on collaborative
information filtering, and has been co-directing it since. John
Riedl's research explores the ways that computer tools can help people
find the information, people, and opportunities to contribute they
seek. He specializes in recommender systems and the social web. In
2009 he was named an ACM Fellow. In 2006, he was
named a Senior Member of the IEEE and won the Best Paper Award at the
Computer Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW) Conference. Riedl has also
received the Commerce Technology Award, The MIT Sloan School Award for
Innovation in E-Commerce, and at least half a dozen teaching
awards. Riedl has served on many program committees and has authored
more than 50 publications, including one book, journal and conference
papers, short articles and book chapters.- Research Interests
