Learning and Education
This chapter focuses on the learning and educational aspects of the FOSS model. Informal learning is important factor in the overall success of FOSS communities and FOSS development efforts. It occurs at various levels -- personal, organizational, and community -- and refers to the wide variety of phenomena that enables individuals, organizations, and entire communities to learn effective practices and procedures. Study of how learning occurs at these levels can help inform our understanding of effective FOSS development. Formal learning refers to nascent educational efforts aimed at getting students enganged in the FOSS development process.
