Short Biography

Walt Scacchi received a Ph.D. in Information and Computer Science at the University of California, Irvine in 1981. From 1981-1998, he was on the faculty at the University of Southern California. In 1999, he joined the Institute for Software Research at UC Irvine, and in 2002 became associate director for research at the Computer Game Culture and Technology Laboratory (www.ucgamelab.net). His research interests include open source software development, networked and grid-based computer games, knowledge-based systems for modeling and simulating complex engineering and business processes, developing decentralized heterogeneous information systems, and electronic commerce/business. Dr. Scacchi is a member of ACM, IEEE, and Independent Game Developers Association. He is an active researcher with more than 150 research publications. He has directed 45 externally funded research projects. He also has had numerous consulting and visiting scientist positions with a variety of firms and research laboratories. In 2007, he served as General Chair of the 3rd IFIP International Conference on Open Source Systems, Limerick, IE.
